Guys

I have noticed over a few days that my engine managment light comes on when i start her. now this only happens when it is cold and icy outside.

other days when the temp is a bit higher in the morning it does not come on.

After runnig for 10 mins the light goes off.

Is this normal for an Import car or is there something i should be looking for.

I can over ride the light after a few mins of running by turning her off the re-starting her.

Any ideas about this one as im hoping it is normal.

Cheers

Alex

mine did this. check for error codes mate. u can do a search on how to do this. simple enuf to do. take 5 mins max.

in short there is a diagnostics port at the fire wall on the passanger side. open this. get a bit of wire and bridge the e1 port and te1 port. get in the car and turn the ignition on. the enginement light should flash. if this flashes with out stoppin then there is no error codes. if it flashes then pauses then flashes this is the error code. my guess will be flash flash flash flash flash pause flash flash flash flash error code 54. top up rad. u will need to reset the ecu after toppin up the rad

Yea most likely you Charge Cooler needs topping up. As it gets colder the fluid level drops...

fire the engine up from cold with some coolant ready then open the filler cap give the engine a blip and you'll see the level of the fluid drop as the pump kicks in, top up to the filler neck then replace cap. Be quick though you only have 30 secs before the pump stops and the level rises again spewing all the coolant back out... :D

The toyota forlife coolant is nothing special it just pre mixed coolant with rust inhibitors probably made it the same factory as all the other ones...

Basically any coolant as long as it's premixed and contains rust inhibtors will be fine.

On that note even concentrate is fine as long as you mix it with distilled water and not mineral full tap water.

Am glad I decided to look through these posts now. Ive just had error code 54, and had my techie tell me that he would need it for a few days to 'check it out!' despite telling me my engine sounds perfect and that he thinks there is nothing wrong with the turbo. My symptons were exactly the same. Fab!!

code 54 is normally the CC level. nothing to worry about. that or the pumps goosed but that tends to complain quite loudly when its going
