1998 - 1.8 Avensis bought at 70,000miles done 10,000 more - Best car I have had. Only complaints on design is the visibility when reversing and poor turning circle. It took a new brake pipe over the tank to pass MOT. but I have 2 problems which I would be grateful for any help on ( I can't find any FAQ's anywhere so I apologise if these have been covered before.)

The car has been well looked after so I accepted the way it started was normal :- It always takes some 'winding' of the starter motor to start, hot or cold, whereas all my previous cars have had started within a few 'winds ' of the starter. is this normal or is there a problem ? The second problem is a rumbling noise coming from the steering column only when just moving off and steering. It has just passed the MOT in this condition.
