:)

Unfortunately I was off work today so couldn't grab the Metro this morning. That's good to know the corolla is rock solid, although I think most of us knew that already.

Absolutely fantastic news!

My T-sport is a 2001 registered 2002 model!

One of the faults must be the plastic clips that hold the gearlever in place as mine broke when fitting a TTE quickshift. lol No idea what the other 2 are.

Cheers

Armz.

Good news but ...

...please remember of all the Toyota Corollas made since 1966 not even 10% still exist

However unreliable vehicles ;) like Land Rover ...over 60% of 'classic' shape Land Rover exist since their birth of 1947.

And of all the 'unreliable' 1960'S & 70'S BMC/LEYLAND sports cars  (now/what was Rover) MGB's, Triumph Sptifires, etc again over 60% servive in the world.

What may be utterly reliable when new may not be easy to repair/rebuld/patch up when it gets old!

That what annoys me about 'reviews' like this they tend to only pick stuff that is under 8 year old what they should really do is reliabilty tests on stuff around the 15-25 year old era and then that might make some interesting reading!

Some interesting and indeed surprising stats there; do you have a source reference for them?

I agree knowing the reliability of older cars would be interesting, but these surveys tend to be aimed at new car buyers, and most of them don't intend to keep the car longer than three years, so short term reliability is all they're interested in.

The longevity of cars isn't purely down to reliability; much depends on whether owners feel the car is worth long term investment, and in that respect sports cars tend to do particularly well. I believe Porsche claim that 55% of the vehicles they've ever made are still going today. But I'd be very surprised if the figure for Spitfires and MGBs is higher than that.

I actually thought porsche were nearer 70% in their survival rate!

The M.G.B servival rate is down to the fact that 70-80% of 'then' new sales in the 60's and early 70's was to the USA where British sports cars are extremely popular.

I totally agree with what you say it's just I find it most entertaining what actually 'lasts' in the long term.
