Engine Problem

hi i have just bought a toyota estima/lucida 2.1 petrol jap import j reg,the problem is that when you are stationary and rev the engine ,it sounds great but as soon as you pull away it sounds like the cam knocking ,a friend of mine said try using high octane fuel as it might sound like the cam but could be pinking as he said thats what we have to use on imports from japan,anyway i have filled the tank up with high octane unleaded fuel and its still the same ,any ideas would be apreciated thanks..... ;)
