2007 Verso Sr

Hi All

With very impending family on the way, time has come to sell the chariot and go for the family mobile. :group-cuddles: I have been putting the inevitable off and off but the time has come to let go of possibly the very best car I have ever had. Great car...but not enough space for pram and other baby bits in the boot!! :crybaby:

Lots of deliberation and despite a cracking offer from local Citroen Dealer on a top spec C4 Picasso I have stuck with the Japanese option and gone for the Verso 2.2 D4D in 'SR' spec. Judging by the reports, the vast majority appear impressed with the car. It will be interesting to see how the 175bhp of the Lexus 2.2 diesel compares with the 134bhp on the Verso.

In order to limit potential damage and protect (where at all possible) the paint, I am looking at adding the protection pack to the Verso which only seems to be a available as a 'dealer option'. I don't mind getting OEM parts from dealers, £250 seems a bit steep for four 'mud flaps', a boot liner and a rear bit for the bumper (reduced chance of pram scuffs)

Any one any tried and tested alternatives, or is it Dealer OEM?

Also, is the 'bluetooth' hands free kit standard on the SR or am I going to need to have a Parrot CK3100 fitted?

Great site, by the way.

I BOUGHT A SR2.2 D4D TWO MONTHS AGO AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT BOTHER WITH IT

STEERING FAULT,NEW WINDSCREEN, , DIFFERENT COLOURED DOORS, IT IS THE RED COLOURED ONE.

CHECK THE CAR BEFORE YOU BUY OR IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT IT CHECK IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE DEALERS.

GOOD LUCK WITH IT.

Thanks for the heads up Rab. Small consolation to you, but hopefully yours is an isolated case. Sounds like your car is within grounds for a return to dealer under the faulty goods act! The slightest issue with the Lexus and it was literally straight back in, seen to (in a workshop that was so clean that it puts my spotless kitchen to shame) if necessary (as was) a loan car issued without question, and the problems rectified with a full report at the end of it. I am banking on Toyota service being comparable to that provided by Lexus given the relationship between the two businesses and all ;)

I will be fine tooth combing the SR and leaving no panel unchecked. As a fall back, I have ensured that I have kept the Lexus insurance until next friday - so if there are any issues, I will be driving away and returning when all is put right :D There is always the three year warranty to fall back on in any event.

Will of course keep the forum updated.

:) :P :) Well...three days in and I can say that I am mightily impressed with the car :D Nice and smooth and great all around vision. Better half likes it too which is always a bonus :P bluetooth phone works a treat although I desperately want to switch from the american drole voice on the bluetooth. Any one any idea how to change the voice?. Had a bit of mither with the car mats. Invoice stated that they were included....when car delivered only the last two seat mats were in. Suggested that the salesman viewed the invoice prior to attempting to charge me for a new set. I won B)

Like i say, great car in SR spec. Cruises beautifully at 70-75 returning 50mpg+ Am using Shell low sulphur diesel and all running so far so good.

Pleased I did the leap from the lexus to the Corolla. (why does that look so wrong in print  )

So did the SR come with bluetooth? I test drove the SR today, and didn't think it did, so did you get the Tech Pack? If so, did you get to try out the iPod connection that is part of the tech pack, as it's something we're after. I think I shall be ordering the same model shortly.

[Hi Trig

The bluetooth is a Toyota fitted jobby and works quite well. The SR I bought was the Sales Managers own car (complete with LIMITED OIL in the sump!!!!) 1L of fully synthetic soon put pay to that. Compared with the Lex, the engine is a bit smoky under hard acceleration, but considering I respect the mechanicals of any vehicle, it probably does the engine good to rev above 3.5k every now and then!! B)

There is no Ipod fitting, but one of the lads in work had the same model from new on a 57 plate which has the ipod fitting in it - but he does not have bluetooth. I wonder if the bluetooth was married up to the stereo (a factory fitted basic one disk job)

The bluetooth was a £295 optional extra. They tried to make me 'pay for it' in the initial deal, but after a few negotiations, and given that the dealer is staring Christmas down the barrel, I muttered the words "Foxtrot Oscar" so they 'threw it in  ' with the deal. (cinically i suspect that it would have cost them more to disable than leave in situ) Afterall, how many poor car dealers do you know

The Parrot CK3100 is worth a look and is (with the speaker feed kit) a strong unit. The Toyota one is a totally voice activated unit which takes some getting used to. Be careful if you suffer from sporadic torrets!! If your Financial; Director is as bad as mine, avoid voice tags - as a merchant Banker also doubles up as ...well...you get the drift...

hi guys,

I had my verso checked by the Toyota field service manager yesterday and it has been returned to the dealer.

The paint was faulty, car always pulling to the left, had a new windscreen ,tracking checked numerous times to no avail.

They offered me a new one but I declined that , I am going for a full refund.

I dont want another one with possibly the same problems.

He said that the car was manufactured in Turkey and drove differently from ones Made in Japan, Dont know how that can be as they are all made from the same blueprinted drawings.

He admitted that the car was pulling to one side, but they all do that he said, just a Toyota trait.

Smells fishy to me.

Good luck with your car Braxton.

Glad you like it

What nonsense. The Verso I test drove didn't pull to either side. It seems the default for dealers is to lie.

EDIT - just reading the thread on cars pulling to the left - wow. They must have worked on the one I test drove. I shall be paying close attention to this when picking our new one up.

Blimey Rab could that car of yours be a Sunday Morning build? By the sounds of it you will be best walking away from it! I can only go by personal experience and it is all good. I cant fault it. The turning circle is a bit on the lame side but once you make allowances for it in manouvres, then the insurance company shouldn't need to be notified.

50mpg+ is the norm (kept off the rev limiter of course - and changing gear at about 2k rev) using standard Shell Derv. Mrs Hicks loves it too and finds the visability great (even at 37 weeks!!) With all that is going off with impending birth etc, last thing we need are reliability worries. So far, Toyota have delivered. Interestingly the service book has stamp spaces to 180k!

So far so good

Good look with whatever you do choose Rab. Our second choice was the Citroen Picasso, Nissan Cashcard and the VW Touran.

Well my faith has been restored.

Toyota has been in touch and have offered me A brand new one ,any colour I wanted, Black was picked, no extra charge.

So I am accepting their offer

I have tried other demonstrators and they seemed alright, So I am giving the model another go, well they have bent over backwards to help .

The car I had was faulty, Factory`s poor quality control.

So hopefully be on the road very soon

Liz is delighted as she really likes the car

We sell the ipod connection kits here, if you have bluetooth fitted, you will also need the additional wiring loom, available at checkout. Please ensure you give us the chassis number of your car for compatability

Six Thousand miles in and so far so good. Arrival of daughter Lucy and the amount of baggage that comes with her and the Verso has come into its own. The Journey home from the hospital was event free - even though I drove like a Nun all of the way back from the Post Natal unit. Pram (still in box from Nanna's, Mums bags, bounty bags and everything else, the boot simply swallowed the luggage. Rear facing baby seat positioned behind the front passenger seat was a nice fit. Pre tensioner seat belts had plenty of give to allow for the well rehersed installation of the Silver Cross S4 Car seat. The ride was comfy and the journey a breeze for all passengers. The privacy glass was welcome in the rear of the car as it reduced the glare for Lucy from the street lights. Reversing onto the drive with near zero visabilty was a doddle - thanks to the rear parking sensors.

Running costs so far - returning approx 49-51mpg (changing gear circa 2k revs - push it harder and this does drop) No point in thrashing the engine as this car has to last a long time. Oil consumption fine - not topped up since dropping one litre of fully synthetic at 4000 miles. Initially there was a bit of smoke under acceleration (is suspect that this might be due to the lack of oil in the 'ex demo' when i collected it. This does not seem to be so obvious now. Occasionally the engine does get taken to 4.5k - 5k revs to get things going. Hands free Blue Tooth works well and without incident. Nice and clear - however you do have to watch the volume level in the car because if it is too loud, then the person at the other end of the phone gets a good bit of feed back and can hear themselves a few seconds later!

Still delighted with the choice of the Verso and heartily recommend it!
