Hey everyone,

hoping someone can help me out with a problem im having with my MK3 Hilux.

Its the 2.4D engine, non turbo.

The temp sensor on it usually never rises above cold when running, but then every so often, the temp will shoot up and overheat. The water will be boiling off and then im stuck with no water in the rad.

Im not sure if the rad has a leak which is causing it to overheat, but then the engine is staying pretty cold until it randomly decides to shoot up....

It did this on the way back from Bolton this evening (i live in stockport) and it overheated pretty badly. There has been some kind of seal gasket which has leaked oil everywhere.

When the engine had cooled off after a tow back and the rad was filled back up with water, it runs pretty sweet still. But there is still the matter of the oil around cylinder 1 area.

Anyone got any ideas on why its overheating like this, and if its likely to have caused any serious damage.

I wanna get some opinions before I take it to the local diesel specialist who isnt exactly cheap!

Many thanks in advance.

Rick
