i have the typhoon but it s take hot air. the best is the biltz's sonic or the carbon pipercross, you can take cold air

i thought the typloon located in the wing (correct me if i'm wrong) so how does it suck hot air? i thought the blitz was more likely to suck hot air because of its location? i think the blitz looks the best and i remember reading on here someone had one and said it sounded spot on. i have slightly improved my induction by allowing it to suck from inner wing and avoid that stupid leccy fan and there was a small improvement in performance and a bit of a nicer sound - all for free! but i would still like to improve it more with an induction kit but there are alot of different opinions and facts and different tuners say different things ( article in performance tuner in october)

The reason it sucks hot air is becuase it gets very hot under the bonnet, the air naturally gets into the filter. What i did was add an addional induction pipe from under the front spoiler. So now i have two inductions air feeds.

The ideal situation would be a forced induction kit. I'm no expert on them so maybe someone else can offer more info.

if say the head of the unduction kit (filter) was x amount of distance away from the engine, and you have a longer pipe between engine and head (filter part) of induction kit.

surely this longer pipe will get hot and would the air not be getting warm as it is traveling down the longer pipe before entering engine ?

but shouldnt all induction kits take cold air unless the engine is hot so it would be warmer right? or are all the induction kits actually designed to differently?

best thing to do is......

1) cut hole in bonet above air intake

2) purchase induction kit

3) fit induction kit so it sticks out the top of your bonet.

hahahaha wonder if anyone has actually attempted this

I have the PowerTec kit which is good value for money at £99

Must admit though that like other kits it does suck warm air from the engine bay.

The true Cold Air Kits come a bit more expensive.

I only bought mine to hear the supercharger whine

The only time when cold air is taken in is when moving.

One theory to prove this is rev the car at a standstill with a typhoon or any other induction fitted. Now rev it while moving. The difference in induction note clearly shows there is alot of air getting sucked in, as opposed to when not moving.

After a short relaxed 10min drive the engine bay is literally cooking when i pop the bonnet. All temp readings are fine though. Just the engine is a different beast to the normal vvti's, and loves cold air, and lots of it.

When i showed my bodyshop guy the 2nd induction pipe i had fitted just below the front spoiler, he recommended i reroute it and have the pipe take air from the front offside arch area. That would stop any type of rain/flood water getting sucked into the engine, but i think it would actually restrict air-flow. So first things first a proper heatshield to partition off the filter from the rest of the engine. And maybe a heat resitant pipe from the head to the filter instead of the standard rubber pipe.

LOL, that would actually be the easiest solution, buy a carbon fibre bonnet which are available at various places for the Corolla. cut an area in the middle of the bonnet and place a bonnet scoop to suck air in from there. Reroute air induction pipe so it sucks air from there aswell as the standard airbox area. That would help alot as heat would naturally escape from the scoop area aswell as suck in cold air there. I have no idea what effect this would have on cars which are in cold countries. As the heatlining under the bonnet would not be as effective.

I've seen quite a few scoobies with this type of setup.

im currently saving for the typhoon at the moment, just going to stick it on as it should be with a heat shield.

my mates type r has a typhoon fitted in its normal place , this has a heat shield on, also he has some sort of flexi pipe about 2inch diameter very close to the filter part of the induction kit, im guesing the other end of the pipe is at the grill of his front bumper (would this direct some cold air to the typhoon ?).

going to send him a msg now and find out more about it.

you have two air feeds anyway! u missed my point, i thought the typhoon was located in the wing - i seen one and the filter was behind the air vent in the wheel arch cover or was that another kit i seen. Borodaz has made a good point and should be considered if replacing your cars breathing. another thing to consider in water being sucked in when u put a feed pipe in the front bumper or when using some induction kits that locate the filter on a long pipe in areas where water can be drawn in.

hi guys

Couldnt help but look at this section regarding induction kits. as i have been looking for one myself i have done alot of research.

yesterday i talked to a K&N specialist and asked him for advice about fitting a induction kit to my compressor.

i mentioned to him that the typhoon kit comes highly recommended from you guys at which point he said he wouldn't recommend it because it was made and tested for the cts not the compressor.

saying that he did say to me the best alternative would be the "Apollo Universal Cold Air Feed". here the cone filter is enclosed with the cold air feed which is obviously in position to suck cold air from its surronding..

this kit costs £160 according to him but im sure you can find it for cheaper??

what do you guys recon??? worth buying ?
