Temperature Gauge

Hi,

I've recently bought a fine looking GT4 ST205 1994 un modded jap import.

There are a few electrical faults which is why it's back in at the garage.

can anyone tell me wether the temperature gauge should come up to midway and stay there ??

or is it reading something else. At the moment sometimes it just stays at the bottom. Other times it gets to about a 1/4.

cheers

just a "yes it gets to halfway and stays there" is all I need to know

yes it gets to halfway and stays there

unless the thermostat is a low temperature one, or the thermostat is goosed, or the thermostat is missing.

nice one thanks a lot

the other elec issues are

1. lights all dim when breaking

2. warning light on (top left corner ) dash saying bulb gone (I think that's what it means) even though all the lights are working. - this only comes on when I turn on the lights but stays on after the lights go off.

3. temp gauge

4. water washer pump.

I reckon 1&2 are due to the installation of the rear fog light

anyway apart from these minor niggles the car itself is a beast. I had a '97 celica 25th anniversary prior to this so internally it is very similar. Performance wise they're miles apart.

the car is also fitted with a panasonic dvd, TV, sat nav (bl**dy thing is in japanese and even talks to you when you first set off. I can't work it out, just about managed to find a TV signal on it. The guy who sold it reckons you can get an english DVD to convert it but from what I've read on t'internet I dont think I can change it to UK so am going to take it out) also retrofitted is a sony cd/md which looks like blackpool illuminations ( .. it is fricking ridiculous) and a turbo timer. The rest of the car is unmodded.

oh, the radio only works 70-90 MHz FM so can only get radio 2 ??? - I've bought a band extender which I think will give me 90 - 108 MHz which is where most stations are.

yea temp gauge should go up to half way.

not sure about about the bulb gone warning light. never heard of this b4 but then again ive never had a bulb missing on mine. im not sure that this will b due to the fog light installed. what way has it been wired up? usually its only a switch and power wires not wired into the light wiring loom or dash warning lights etc well mine is anyway.

i would be concerned that something has happened to make all these problems appear. maybe the cd player was wired in wrong to begin with or something.

fog light is wired in by replacing one of the reverse lights

all the lights dimming on braking , sugests a bad earth somewhere , run an earth from the reverse light used as the fog light , to another earth or create 1 on the body . see if that improves things.

thanks for the advice,

the guy I bought it off has it back and is fixing it as we speak...... (it's not a big garage, he does my servicing and buys the odd car from the import auctions and I got 3 month warranty which I'm using up :-) )

I'm lucky (kind of) that my old celica hasnt sold yet so I can use that in the meantime.

hopefully get it back tonight.....
