Now i have quiestions,

2. Shall i await huge repair cost?

just check your oil regulary as they can use alot, i suggest every 200 miles. (ive got this !Removed! problem!!) if you dont and it is using oil then a new engine will be needed!!

it should do between 300-370 miles per tank depending on your driving style.

hope that is of help

I read in my celicas owners manual, its says its normal when it uses 1litre for 1000miles.

I knew iis oil issue with celicas, but how can test when i am driving car? Who will let you test drive for 200 miles?

Anyway, i hope it will be allright

Another question? My engine sounds litle bit noisy, its sounds like diesel litle bit. Is it normal? I never drove sporty car.

just check using the oil dipstick, that the oil is between the max and min mark after every 200 miles you drive. it will tell you how to do that in the car manual.

mine doesnt sound like a diesel, dunno whats up there!

1. The G7 is pretty solid, bar...

The oil thing already mentioned - definately worth making regular checks on it. Every 200 miles might be a bit excessive for most, but as long as you have peace of mind, thats all that counts.

The alloys can be a bit rubbish. Either corrode badly over time (16" wheels), or buckle easily (17" 6 spoke wheels). For the corrosion, they can be refurbished at around £30-ish a wheel, for the buckling (if you're unlucky enough), you're best off getting a new set of good quality aftermarket wheels.

2. Other than that, theres no real major expenses to look out for above and beyond any other car. Genuine Toyota parts don't come cheap when you do have to replace them, but you'll find its a lot better built than you average family 4-door though...

3. Running costs - £50 to fill up, that'll take you anywhere between 250 miles, and 400+ miles, depending on how you drive it. Servicing depends on where you go. Average Toyota service might come in around the £160 mark every 10,000 miles. Decent Tyres, £80ish a corner. £190 a year tax. Insurance depends entirely on who you are, how you have driven in the past (convictions, etc), and where you live. Mines around £500 a year fully comp with protected no claims.

4. No probs, any time. Welcome to the club! Hope you enjoy the motor! :)

I'd be interested to know what it says in the manual, but isn't the oil check procedure to see how far below the max line it is, then if necessary top up so that it reaches max; taking care not to add too much as overfilling can be as bad as underfilling.

But just checking that it's between the lines and doing nothing if its short of max doesn't sound right to me, especially on a car with a known habit of drinking the stuff. Surely if you do that, then the next time you check it's likely to have been less than min for a while.

Re the engine noise - no I don't think it should sound like a Diesel; particularly once its warmed up. But if it sounds too noisy, get someone else to listen to it, or compare it side by side with another similar car - ideally another Toyota 1.8 VVTi. If you listen to your own engine it's easy to imagine that it's louder than it should be, and the effect is magnified if you're doing this in the garage.

Good luck.

Thanks guys for really warm wellcome.

I really dont know what to do, i just got my celica, driving for day now, done arround 20miles.

The problem is, when i got it i did not really check oil level, i just checked if oil looks allright, it was quite dark.

Today in the mornig, before i leave to work, i checked oil again, and i was shocked, it was no oil on stick at all.

I put liter of oil, which made no difference, added onother litre, then oil level came to max.

At work people said it is normal, but i know i am not going to sleep deffenetly for while.

oh dear, just make sure you dont fill above the max level on the dipstick as this can damage the engine too. i suggest you should get an oil and filter change done by a garage to make sure there is no mixing of oils of different grades as you shouldnt really mix oil grades. i just had one done by toyota and it cost me 78 euro incl vat, approx 50 pounds. im sure if you went to an independant garage they would a bit be cheaper.

Good luck!

I regularly get 35mpg from our 2004 140, thats a mixture of town, motorway and driving it like I stole it!

Not so good with the 2000 190 though, but then, who drives a VVTLi slowly?

Thought i'd reiterate that the oil problem only effects the pre facelift 140's, so 1999-2002/3

If you car does use excessive oil Toyota have been known to replace the block for free, so worth enquiring and see if you qualify - which seem to be regardless of dealer service history.

that is true, but the car in question is a 2000 model hence the oil problem and toyota are only offering a 7 year warrenty of the engine so therefore its likely to be out of warrenty unless the car is registered at the end of 2000.

Might be interested in buying as it is, depending on the price
