New member so hello great web site. Just bought a 52my rav4 diesel 3 door in black very pleased with it but I would like any opinion on whether to purchase a private warranty. Having read all the posts on the DMF failure and considering this car is at 66,000 miles and is still on the original assembly. Has any member managed a claim through any of these warranties after a failure? I was looking at warranty direct it’s coming out at around £180 for the year but still cheaper than having the thing replaced when it eventually goes. What do you think?.

Have you looked in to http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/index.html

£65 per year, will cover first £500 of repair, up to 5 per year? Would not cover the complete cost if something like DMF failed, but it is a lot cheaper and would help out in the event of a bill.

Hmmm with Warranty Direct...I found they don't pay for the bill when it goes wrong..you pay then claim back from them...They do have some places they deal with and can claim direct, but not many.

Found this a pain as spending out on a Warranty then having to spend out again on a major issue then claim this back.....arrrrrrrr

Remember the RAV is warranted upto 5 years or 100,000K whatever first....

No not any more. They were warranted for 5 years or 100k starting in August 2002 so this warranty was no longer effective from August 2007.
