Jap Imports, Decats And Mot

I remember reading somewhere but dont know where it was that imported cars from Japan only need a Cat from 1995 onwards. Is this true? When I get my rev3 Turbo I want to De Cat it and if its true that Jap cars only need them from 1995 onwards I wont bother putting it on and then taking it off etc just for the MOT :)

I know UK cars need them from 1993 and onwards.

I would be worried where I took my car... some have some different rules! I had to protest me 'inertia' seatbelts this year but they passed the last 3 years!

The mr2 is classed as a passenger vehicle as it was never designed to carry anything other than passengers. HTH. :)
