Problem With Traction Control?

Hiya all this is my first post,

Ever since I've had my CTS my traction control has never worked.

I'm under the impression that it stops me from wheelspinning, especially in the wet. I get lots of wheel spin if I try to drive fast in the wet. I have not switched traction control off.

Is this a common problem wit CTS's?

I know the T/C works with the ABS, my ABS works fine.

Those of you with T/C, can you wheelspin in the wet easy?

What shall I dooo?? What should I look for? Dirty sensors?

Rich

May i suggest you try with the traction control both on and off! that way you will be able to notice any differences. I am no expert on this subject and i am sure that someone will correct me if i am wrong but i am sure that road surface, tyre condition and weather will all make a difference to how the traction control works? If your wheels continually spin and dont feel like they are biting at all then i would suggest a trip to Mr Toyota for a second opinion. By the way please do not attempt to drive the cts without the tc in the wet as you would normally! you will find it to be a completely different animal.

Regards

I agree with trying it with TC on and off. You'll always be able to get some wheelspin with it on, as it can't really predict to prevent it.

What tyres do you have with how much tread?

hmm this is now a little confusing. i know mine beeps when the t/c kicks in or is it the vsc that is beeping and is it activated at the same?

My TC flashes, never beeped before. However VSC does beep. pre-facelift.

Only time i can get the car to flash and beep is going round roundabouts at 40+ and it's the VSC at work.

I can get TC to flash alot in the wet, but it's never beeped before unless i am sideways. :D

Cheers

I spent half an hour on the M40 last year aquaplaning near constantly (not good for my stress levels) and the traction control was literally flashing every 3-5 seconds. I think it if beeped as well I would have gone mad.

is it not the case that it flashes when it is doing something to correct your mistake... but only beeps when it can't do anything to help you ?

i've had the VSC flash a few times, but only ever had it beep once.

When it flashes its the vsc working to keep the car pointing straight. when u take it a bit further and get the car going sideways it uses the trc to distribute power to the wheels to correct. which on my old facelift tsport was accompanied by a bleep to tell u you're driving like a chav. I know this because i used to drive from wigan to camarthen in wales all the way down the A483 three times a week (what a drive btw). I used to have it beeping quite a lot. tried it once with the trc off and it never bleeped at all.

Having said that i've never heard the compressor bleep (must be driving like an old woman).

i find that in the wet , even with the traction control on , when i hit lift the wheels spin loads. with it off totally, it just wants to melt the tyres and not move. lol.

saying that, my previous cts on an 03 plate never spun when hitting lift in the wet, so not to sure? i have a 52 plate now, and it seems more powerfull. :D

Its a prefacelift CTS,

I've never actually tried it with the T/C switched off in the wet

When i drive in the wet with the T/C 'supposedly' switched on, drive hard with the wheel slightly turned I get wheelspin, the rev rises but car doesnt speed up and T/C flashes. Worst when in lift :D

So is this just a case of pre-facelift's T/C is alot more calmed down compared to facelifts?

I got Bridgestone turanza's with about 3mm of tread left

Never had a car with T/C, so not sure how it works, I've read somewhere on our corollas it applies the brakes rather than cut the spark etc. Just that if I go mad I have to let off the throttle to get traction back again. Doesn't seem right

lol I don't drive THAT hard, managed 320miles out of this tank

So what happens when T/C kicks in? Is it like the same feeling as ABS? as I know they both work together

When the trc kicks in the u can feel the brakes coming on one side and the power going to the other, its quite strange. sort of like the cars floating but keeping u perfectly in line. if you're not getting it to kick in you're not going fast enough!!!:eek::eek:

Spot on!. Had that many times on the same roundabout before i got TTE springs fitted. Now the only time it does that is when it's very wet and i'm giving it beans.

I think the whole point why it beeps is when VSC has to step in, which means the car thinks your are likely to crash or on the verge of completely losing control. When my TC flashes i have no idea apart from the wheels spinning as it flashes so quickly its easy to miss. Not as dangerous as being 'side-ways'. But the beeps are a audible warning to 'back-off' as it were. I think it's nice to have VSC beep only and the TC can just stay quiet, it would bug me alot. The reversing beeps ae bad enough. lol.

Mine beeps when I really push the car around corners, it usually does nothing when it beeps, it's down to the driver to sort things out.

Only does something when it flashes, although turing the T/C off is the first thing I do when I get in the car, dont want some electronics to limit the amount of power I put to the front wheels. Ive noticed it beeps even when the T/C is switched off.
