Questions About Toyota 58812 Car Stereo

Hi,

I have a Rav4 2005 with a pre-installed Toyota 58812 car stereo (aka Matsush*ta 502998). I do not have a cd changer but when I look at the back of the stereo there is a connector connected to the cd changer connector. The connector only have two cables attached, a grey and black cable to pin eight and a grey cable to pin nine. Pin eight and nine seems to be for TX+/TX- from what I can find on the Internet.

The strange thing is that when I disconnect the connector the radio, the volume control (both on the stereo and the steering wheel) and the power switch stop working, but the cd player and trip computer still works. Does anyone have an explanation?

The reason I want to know is because I plan to install an iPod interface but it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Hello Martin,

I Think you've asked this one before.

I wondered whether the steering wheel controls are on the data lines of the avclan (TX+/TX-), but I believe they are usually much simpler than that. Usually they are just a load of switched resistances connected to about 3 pins on another head unit connector.

Think you are going to have to find out whether those wires are coming from, to get some clues.

Another alternative might be to connect those 2 wires into pins 8 and 9 on the new ipod connector harness (I assume the ipod connector goes into the cd changer input?), so that whatever is on the avclan on those two wires, still has a connection to the avclan, when you connect the ipod interface. Another way of doing that would be an avclan splitter/adapter type harness.

maybe somebody else has more detailed knowledge than me of this particular head unit?

Sorry, best I can think of at the moment.

Cheers
