Woke up this morning with a bit of excitement ready to go and collect my new RAV4 XTR :D

Got a taxi to the dealer, went through the handover, well chuffed :D

Went home, and had a drink, got some sandwiches and headed out for a drive :D

After a grand total of about 25 miles there was an almighty bang!! A stone had hit the windscreen. :( I looked but could not see a mark. What a relief.

Stopped off at Sandringham for a walk, and too have my lunch. Went to check the windscreen over, only to find that the stone actually hit the middle of the bonnet, taking a lump of paint off about 5mm diameter, down to the undercoat. :crybaby:

I have never had such a thing happen, and cause so much damage. What a time to do it, in my brand new car :censor:

So far love the car, but I am so gutted. :ffs:

Took it in. They said they would not be able to repair it perfectly without respraying the whole bonnet. :(

Said it could be touched in, but it would show where it was done :(

Gutted for you, Matt. Hope you can get it sorted.

Have tried Chipsaway and the like. I've heard they can sometimes work miracles!!

Well............

I wouldn't rush into anything. Of course to you it might as well be as big as a dustbin lid but it isn't, it is 5mm. If you have the bonnet resprayed it will have to be a first class job otherwise the whole bonnet will stand out like a sore thumb - maybe not now but in 12 months. Chips Away would be my first choice but they are going to charge you about £60 - £80 for it.

Why not get the proper Toyota touch up and try taking your time on a suitable day to touch it up yourself just the same as you will in 2 years time when you have several on the bonnet anyway. If you can't live with it you can always get it done afterwards. The important thing for now is to just get it covered up (although the bonnet is treated and won't rust).

It's a pain but it's not the end of the world.

Keep your chin up mate.

Regards

Sorry to hear that news Mat.

My car before my Avensis was an LS400 Lexus which wasn't new but excellent condition.

I spent the day polishing it the day after I picked it up, then drove down south to show my Dad my new car.

On the M4 a BIG stone bounced along my bonnet in 3 places, taking the paint off and denting it, as well as severely cracking the windscreen and denting the roof. :o

As well as nearly giving me heart failure

If I were in your position though i'd leave the repair to the professionals, for the price of less than a good night out it's not worth making it look worse.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Dear God, is it raining stones out there?

Really sorry for you. :(

Personally, I would get someone like Chips Away to look at it but that only because I haven't got the patience and confidence to do a really good job.

Hope you can recover from this set back and really start to enjoy your RAV! Sure you'll love it just as much as everyone else here

Thankyou all for your words of encouragement.

I have a tank full of Ultimate Diesel, so I am going to go and enjoy it :)

She will go in next week to have the stone chip touched in at the dealers. When she has been touched up, I will give her a nice wash and wax, and try to forget about it.

If the weather is nice tomorrow I will go and take some photo's of her.

One again, thankyou for cheering me up.

Thats waur yer wrang. A guid ol run thru the countryside hitting as many deep muddy pools as possible will hide onything! Whits a jeep fur if its no fur aff road stuff??

Had ma RAV oot yesterday, afore it goes back in for checking and a little mair work. Aff road and all - fan-tabby-dosey. 110 in 4th with complete stability on corners - better than ever. The motorway wis guid as weel!!

3rd & 4th accelaration is astonishing. An thats me no even polished the car!! Still got the 6 cibies oan as weel, but will need to find anither front bar cos the original is pretty rotten. The bonnet and paint is still the original 13 years old silver/grey.

yer man
