Toyota Corrolla 1999 25miles To £10

hi i just bought a toyota corrolla 1.6 gs which is giving me very low milage to a tenner about 25 miles anyone have any ideas why its doing that checked if theres any oil of petrol leaks on my driveway nothing there i'm having it serviced but even though it should give me at least 70 miles to tenner

Had this problem with a 1998 1.6 GS myself - running rich (lot of soot around tail pipe) - it was a knackered Lambda/oxygen sensor - replaced job done.

Incidently are the revs 'fluttering' when ideling? - as this was also happening in my case due to the sensor failing.

yes revs do go up down a bit when cold then they stablise but its slighty smokey too but sort itself out after a min or 2
