Haynes manuals, great to have about the place.

Somewhere to rest the mug and ciggy's.. :D

For reference though, everyone should keep one for the car that they have, they are an invaluable route map, but sometimes. The information given isn't correct.

For instance, i have a Pug 205 Gti 1.6. Before you start. 'It is a peice of poncy french cheese, and i hate it.' The girlfriend drives it. Ha! That'll teach her! I've got a mate thats mad on them, and he never uses the Haynes, he reckons, quite often things like torque settings are wrong and so on.

I recently set the timing on my 4AGE, and set the timing to 10 BTDC, as Haynes says. The engine didnt sound all that good though, just sounded kind of dull. I ride motorbikes, and love to hear the crisp sound of combustion. So i know how it should be.

After a little bit of experimentation, i'm now running a base timing 11-12 BTDC. I reckon the engine is a lot happier, but anything after that and the advance goes of the scale above base.

Does anyone know the optimum timing for performance, for the 4AGE. The only modification it has is a K&N. I think Haynes have got it wrong.
