Reversing Sensors

Hi

I bought a new 2005 XT5 2.0D-4D and had reversing sensors fitted prior to taking delivery. They have worked fine until a couple of months ago. Now whenever I engage Reverse the sensors beep continuously. The manual suggests that the wiring may be at fault but I have not touched the wiring at all nor carried anything which might have done so!.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Are the sensors covered by the Three year warranty ?

Thanks

Meredith

Hi Meredith and welcome to TOC ;)

Have you checked the actual sensors for any foriegn matter in them ? ie dirt, pieces of leaves etc. If they are clean

take it back to the dealer as they will be covered under your 3 year warranty.

Agree with that, they are sensative to water / dirt ingress.

I've had a sensor changed in the past after water / dirt got into it.

There is a circular groove on each sensor. Look very closely at them and use a pin or something similar to remove any dirt. It only takes a tiny spec of dirt.

This is another thread where a sensor turned out to be faulty;

Good luck

I had a problem with the rear sensors and it turned out to be a dry joint sorry i cannot remember if they just did not work or were on all the time but the job took just 15 minutes

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I checked the grooves and for one second thought there was dirt covering half of the groove on two of the sensors but when I tried to remove it with a pointed instrument I found it was pieces of rubber membrane!! This is obviously original so it must be water etc. in the sensors; I shall take it to the dealer next week.

Many thanks to all.
