Hello Fellow Rav owners, newbie to the forum but Rav 4.2 owner for 4.5 yrs.

Have always found this forum very informative and extremely helpful.

I need to change a pair of tyres on my Rav(currently fitted with Toyo tranpath-been v.happy with these) and was wondering as to others owners thoughts regarding tyres/prices etc.

My local Costco have Michelin synchrone at £89 fitted.Would it be ok to mix these?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Maz

Welcome to the club. I have no experience of these Michelins but the price looks OK. It is OK to mix them by axle sets but not accross an axle.

My local tyre dealer at Dove Holes near Buxton supplies the local cops with Goodyears for their RAVs at less than £80 all in but it would cost you the savings to get here.

Somebody else will chip in soon.

Cheers

Hi Maz and welcome to TOC. ;)

I also have Toyo Tranpaths, in july while on holiday I got the front ones renewed. The garage I used could not get the

same Tranpaths I had origionally but came up with a newer model called Toyo Open County. They are pretty similar

except for a couple of large deep grooves for water displacement. Have not noticed any negative effect with them at

all. Not any noisier etc, and if I still have my Rav next summer I will get the same ones fitted to the back. They were

about £82.0 each complete. bearing in mind that was the channel islands so there was no Vat or Duty etc. Would have

hesitation in reccomending them at all. :)

Hi Maz ,

Welcome to the forum. You will get heaps of useful information here.

I would be interested to know how many miles your Toyo Tranpaths have done.

I have the same tyres on mine, since new ,and they have now done 26000 miles with 3-4 mm tread depth still on each of the four tyres .They have worn evenly as my dealer rotated them during the 10000 mile service .So I guess at 30000 miles I will also be looking for replacements , all 4 . I would be happy with these again as then I could rotate the spare with them.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Llith

Well my Rav will be 3 years old next summer, warranty will be up, need MOT, allways a good time for a change ;)

I put Synchrones on my Freelander at 50k and they were down to 6mm when I passed it on to my daughter at 80k, so they were looking verrry good regarding long life; they gave me no problems on grip, either - fine in the snow.

The original tyres on my FL were Wranglers and they did the first 50k. I didn't rotate them around the axles and, when I changed them there was only about 1mm difference between front and back pairs.

The Yokohamas on my current Rav4 are down to about 5mm at 26k - so I'm not expecting such good life. If Michelin did the Synchrone in a 225/65/17 they'd be my first choice replacement.

I can't fault the logic in that . God know's in the past when one of my car's have reached the 3 year old milestone, I've stopped and considered my options, "do you stay or do you go?" Some have stayed, some have gone.

The plan at the minute is for my RAV to reach it's 5th birthday with me and then I'll ask the question.

Good Luck to you Dave, what ever you decide to do

Fuj, I dont blame you for having a 5 year plan for your Rav. The 4.3 is BLOODY EXPENSIVE :unsure::unsure:

I have often wondered what other forums on here would make of the price of a new Rav. 3 Yaris's ? maybe 4 Aygo's

if you have a T180 Rav.

I'm with you bothy. I've already no doubt been stuffed by depreciation so I plan to keep mine for a very long time. I'll be like one of these old codgers who are still running around in an Austin A55.

By the time I flog mine the new ones will have a dilithium crystal engine!

I usually keep an eye on Fords of Winford, just out of interest. The only 4.3 in there at the moment is a 56 2.0 VVT-i XT3 (7,500 miles) for £14,500.

See it here.

But when the time comes comes, I'll be keeping an even closer watch on their stock.

More power to you Bothy and if the car was only for FUN, I'd agree you but .........when you do thousand's upon thousand's of miles each year, logic has to rule over your heart. It's harsh but a fact of life.

Ah used tae dae thousands o miles every year...normally in excess of 50,000 in various heaps like Fords; mair Fords; Grand Fords; and certain large Rovers. The ony wans wot stuck the mileage wis ma Toyotas, an the Previa got selt cos ma staff reversed it intae a wall. the driver broke his leg so ah sacked him fur crass stupidity.

Wi a RAV, ye jist change the pairts that are worn - normally tyres n brake pads. Albut it seems sum o ye are making a guid job o wrecking them afore they're oot the showroom!!

Ye widnae wash yer dug ootside in the cold pouring rain so why treat yer RAV the same??? Dugs don't get pit doon jist cos they've ran a few thousand miles either so I say again

RAVS are fur life & no jist Christmas.

These days bothy you'd end up in the Eurpean Court of Human Rights. I'd give anything to see what they'd make of you.

Fairly sure they'd kick it out after about 20 minutes and might even prosecute the plaintiff for careless driving and cruelty to the car and the wall:D

PS. Is Scotland in Europe

The guy accepted that he wis crassly stupid so there wis nae case tae answer.

George Robertson (Gorgeous george) set amongst the USA Senate a year or twa ago nae bother.

An dae the French listen tae Europe Regulations? Naw. They jist bash hell oot o each ither when it comes tae strike time.

Onyway, half o Europe lives in Scotland the noo!

How come they dinna import RAVs frae Poland??

By the way chatman - that's a rare diamond necklace yev shown - lights an all!
