Alarm Woes

my alarm has started to go off for no apparent reason.

one night i went off 3 times in half an hour. in the end i had to go an do a manual lock with the key so that the alarm wasn't activated.

it just went off again just now for no reason.

any ideas why this might be happening? only thing i can think of is condensation running down inside of a window, but surely that wouldn't be enough to set off the alarm?

I guess it depends on which sensor is causing the alarm to trigger.

Mine had no end of trouble during both summers I've owned it. Finally I tracked it down to the bonnet sensor, the movement of the bonnet as it warmed or cooled would trigger the siren. I did find various fixes on the forum but opted for my own in the end - I pulled the sensor and it sits in the ashtray now without causing me any problems.

Cheers.

hi,some owners on the forum have had prob's with there alarm's and say it was the bonnet switch at fault.

is there a way to tell what sensor triggered?

hi,if alarm keeps goind off for no reason, press down on bonnet sensor and activate the alarm,if it does not go off then that sensor is at fault .then simply adjust the sensor.

There are some instructions somewhere on how to find which sensor triggered it but I'm not sure they work. I've never been able to get it to anyway!! I think I posted them up a while ago.

You can stick something to the bonnet where it contacts the sensor to make it less sensititve. I put a screw in mine and haven't had any false activations since.

hi,why bother with a techincal way keep it simple it will be the bonnet sensor,it is only a simple switch not shuting fully,it can be simly adjusted.

would it still be likely to be the bonnet sensor when the car has been sitting in the car park since friday night ? the alarm activation was tonight a few hours ago.

the previous activation was a couple of weeks ago (it was really frosty).

It is at the back of the bonnet just off to the right (as you look at the car). It is a rubber covered dome shape that you can depress with your finger.

ok.. so if it's just a push button sort of thing, why would putting a piece of tape over it make any difference ?

because it will push it and hold it down permanently. The sensor works by triggering the alarm if the bonnet is opened - and therefore releasing the sensor - so by taping it down, it would rule out the sensor rising too high to set off the alarm.

it would need to be a strong piece of tape to resist all the heating up and cooling down, not to mention any moisture.

Some masking tape wrapped around it would probably do the trick. You might even be able to just unplug it.

If you haven't found the alarm manual from my old post then send me your email address and I'll send it to you. There are instructions for finding the last cause of the alarm etc. I can't get any of them to work though!!
