Steering Noise

When im on full lock i.e. when parking or driving in/out of my driveway i get a grating sound like something scraping. It only happens on full lock but both directions. Its definately a scrape noise not a knocking or anything else that could indicate something obvious.

When i had my oil changed saturday i asked the guys at national to look at it while it was up on the ramp. They said they couldnt see anything wrong at all.

It might just be the bearings needs greasing or something, i dunno.

Can anyone shed any light? Or should i just get it booked in for a mechanical check.

Had a similar issue with my car turned out to be the wheel bearings were on their way out which made the brake disc grind against the brake pads both issues were adding to the noise. The bearing you can test by jacking the car up and wiggle the wheel to see if there is any movement in the bearing. If left to long the bearing can start to spin in the hub and wear that out also.

Cheers mate, ill certainly look into that and give it a try.

Anyone else had a similar problem or has any other suggestions for what else it might be?

  • 1 month later...

I get this when I have full lock on and I reverse.

But if I come off full lock by even a little it goes away.

I just put it down to the power steering servo as I cannot see anything rubbing. (Mines a Gen7 btw)

check the dust covers behind the brake discs they could be slightly deformed and then when at tighter angles they touch the discs giving off a scraping noise
