Rav 4 Radio

Hi All

I've recently bought an old 1996 Rav 4 that's fitted with a Toyota Radio model TSN 5125. To all intents & purposes it looks like an old standard Am/FM Radio & Cassette player. However there's a button on it marked CD but there's no obvious place to put a CD in. I was wondering if this is one of the types where the front panel is hinged and the CD player is behind the fascia. I can't find anything obvious that would release the fascia. Any suggetsions or am I just out of luck

Regards

Welcome to the house of fun; hilarity and train drivers.

I congratulate you on buying a 96 RAV thus saving the planet from an excess of 5 door new edition RAVs!!

I have a 1994 RAV, and removed the radio/cassette player. The radio worked fine but the cassette player chewed casettes for fun. I don't think the early RAVs were fitted for CDs so perhaps the radio has been replaced?? Maybe by '96 it was an upgrade. Kingo on this forum will be able to tell from your parts number what functions the radio should have - give him time to wake up after his liquid lunch!

If its the same fitting as wot mine was then the panel around the radio comes off with 2 screws below that bit of fascia. This then allows removal of the radio. There is some recommendation to disconnect the -ve side on the Battery in case the airbag goes off in yer face but!! From that, you might be able to determine more about the radio, or just upgrade it.

I fitted a new radio with CD unit which also takes a USB stick and MP whatever player. I used the existing connections and Speakers and the sound I get is very good....well good enough for me anyway. If I wanted an orchestra playing then I'd have bought a 5 door to allow more room!

Good luck and happy motoring!

Bothy

RAVs are for Life - not just Christmas campaign

Maybe you need to add a CD changer for the button to work?

It's entirely possible that I may already have one! Where would I look for it. (When I said i bought it recently, I mean yesterday, so I've not had time to poke around properly) As an aside, is there anywhere on-line I can find a owners manual?

Regards

Bothy, where do you plug your radiogram in?

anchorman - don't be silly! It works on the extension lead. If I'm out at night, I get a power source from the street lighting....

And anyway, I have an UPS 3000 which is enough to run it for a few hours!

Sorry, no idea where a changer would be in your RAV (if you had one!!), as I don't have the same model as you. The usual places are under the front seats or in the boot.

Me again wurst luck. The haynes manual frae USA covers models til 2000. Aifter that ye can access the manual as per previous recent posts.

I can't honestly remember what buttons were on the original radio that came wi the car as i chucked out the radio 2 years ago. It would probably be safe tae look unner yer seat but theres no really that many places in the RAV that could hide a CD changer so I'd call it quits and buy a new sound machine - probably available locally or look on eBay where I got mine.
