Stereo Volumne Not Working

I'm new to the forum so apologies if this question's been asked before.

For no apparent reason there is no longer any sound from the stereo (rotating the volumne knob has no effect).

Will check the fuse (when it stops raining) but don't think it's that as other functions are working OK. Had the exact same problem on our previous Yaris but it was resolved under warranty so I don't know what the fault was. Have rung local dealer who was not interested in helping over the phone (quick to confirm labour costs at £100 per hour and claim there are no known faults with their radios, though).

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Thank you for your help

Sounds (sic) like a dodgey connection, to me.

Have you tried rotating the knob whilst it is in the pushed in position? If not, try and see if it works. If it does, or works intermitently, it would seem to be a bad connection. I would suggest that it may be cheaper to get a used stereo control off eBay and fit it yourself, rather then paying a trained monkey in overalls £100 an hour to find the fault, perhaps!

Sometimes, these panels come up on eBay, listed as sat nav, when they are only the contol buttons, knob, for it.

The main thing to watch is that you don't get a lower grade spec, if you have a higher spec model, as they used better ones on better models. If the doner car had sat nav, it should be ok as it would have been upgraded. (Unless this is the contol they swapped the better one for).

Having thought of that, do you have the inbuilt sat nav? If so, does the knob work on that? If it does, it may be the stereo/amp rather then knob, if not, that would back up the knob being faulty.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the help/suggestions. The car is totally standard with no accessories.

Have; twiddled the volumne knob (in/out positions) many times which hasn't helped; checked the fuse which hasn't blown.

I have managed to remove the top half of the stereo to see if there's any obvious problems (unfortunately there isn't so will pursue your suggestion re the control knob).

One more thing; I discovered yesterday that CD's will no longer load either !!.

PS: Rang Toyota who want nearly £600 just for the top half of the stereo. :arrgg-matey:
