Oxygen Sensor Replacement

Suppliers of oxygen sensors for the Avensis appear to to classify them as nearside or offside. The 2 exhaust manifold sensors on my vehicle appear to be mechanically identical, & as they do the same job are they not interchangeable?. Anyone know if this the case?

I think there is a difference in the cable length. Over 200 quid for B1S1 from Mr T 6 months ago when they got one in.

There are 3 sensors on Avensis. 2 at Exhaust manifold N/S & O/S ( different cable lengths ) & 1 Pre Cat.

I used Ford sensors when mine went, the only difference is price & wiring configuration at connector. I had to remove Ford connector & replace with one of car. Also need to ensure wires are in correct cavities.

I am an Auto electrician so it was easy for me.

You can buy Pre heated sensors off internet for between £60-£80 ( VVT-I). Pre VVT-I though ( lean burn ) can cost IRO £120.

Sensors are standard ( 2, 3 or 4 wire ) & it is just the cable length & connector type which are unique. I can sell you one of my spare Ford ones but you will need to change connector.

Are the 1800 and 2000 different. I thought the 2L Rav and Avensis have the same engine in which case there are 4 sensors and Dave is saying a 2L ?

Definitely have 4 sensors, 2 on the exhaust manifold & 2 for the CAT with long leads. (2.0 ltr. Vvti engine) Both the manifold sensors have single thread fixing, like a spark plug, but some suppliers maintain the nearside sensor has a flange fitting, hence the need to specify nearside / offside.
