Corola D4d, Flywheel Replacement

Hi,

I'm a new member and have myself a little, but expensive, problem with my '04 Corolla D4D which is currently in for a Service & to have a look at a slipping-Clutch; this excellent litle car has done approx 87,000 miles.

I'm told that not only does the clutch need replacing, but that the FlyWheel itself is actually Damaged also ~ I've gotta say that I've Never had this happen to any other car of this age that I've had, & I've had quite a few, so I'm completely Shocked & Stunned at being told this!!!

My wife has a Toyota Starlet, L-reg, & we've never had any problems with this of that level!

It's a very expensive repair, but on top of this, I'm disgusted that the Flywheel (which must be some fair-sized lump of metal) itself appears to be physically damaged to that extent!!!

Is this normally to be expected?????

Can anybody advise on this ~ this has really dampened my spirit & makes me wonder what's gonna happen next.

Is there a recognised problem with some of these Flywheels???

Thanks

Jimmy,

Have a look HERE at the RAV section...scroll down some pages and read up on the DMF issues. The RAV's have had a bit of a problem with certain build years...also shows you pictures of the offending part..Unsure if the one in yours will be the same...But I can say the part is mighty heavy and a bugger to get too...most of the cost is in labour just getting to it....but once fixed the difference is   very notacable and smoothness returns..just a bit :crybaby: :crybaby: paying for it though...

Also think on the Avensis forum this has been talked about as well.....

Hi Chatman,

thanks for that, & I've read most of the related DMF related articles here now & they're all useful taa! Looks to me like this is a Manufacturing-Defect & the DMF isn't 'Fit-For-Purpose', hence it's RENOWNED for having problems anytime between 1.5 -> 3.5 years which is rediculously poor quality for such a major item, & also why car-companies are already reverting back to a Single-flywheel to avoid these problems - obviously rather than outright admit to any of this, we(the car owner) are being told it's just wear & tear, & simply expected to foot the bill!! If I'd been told when I bought my Corolla D4D that I'de be expected to cough-up around £1500 within 1.5 - 3.5 years, I'd have chosen a totally different car, so I'm disgusted in what I'm now finding out about these Flywheels.

I'm still pursuing this issue, so when I get anything sensible out of anybody I'll update this article.

Thanks
