4age 16v A/f Mixture Setting

Hi All!

I've trouble setting up the 4AGE 16v. I've modified two cars, both AE92 Gti-16. One trackside only, the other is my daily driver. On the track car, i've reworked the exhaust to improve scavenging. Its freeflowing, and works well. The only other mod is a cone filter. The other car's only mod is a K&N.

Both cars seem to run overly lean though. The mixture screw on the track car, has to be turned all the way towards rich, just to get near 1.5% C.o. content on the gas analyser. The other is appx 2-3mm away from max adjustment.

Is this about right?

I'm pretty trusting of Toyota's 'provision for modification ethos.' Am i imagining this?

You know, when i relocated the bits for the airfilter. I didnt have to drill, cut or seriously re-work anything. It all just kind of fell into place, like there was already provision there, an unused mounting point for this, or the loom had just the right amount of stretch to fit that..

I'm heading for the conclusion, that if you fit a freeflow exhaust and a filtercone to one of these babies, then rule of thumb is to crank the mixture screw all the way to rich...

Does anybody agree with this? Anyone have any other ideas? All input here, greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brad
