Need Help Car Wont Start Just Pops And Bangs

hi could anybody help i have a gt4 import 1990 model

just fitted a new engine but it won't start it just pops and bangs .

engine check light comes on but no error codes flash.

tried 3 ecus all do the same thing plenty of compression, plugs sparking fine and fuel pump ok

No codes when you bridge the appropriate terminals on the diagnostics connector?

yeah it just flashes on off on off with no codes

yeah it just flashes on off on off with no codes

IT will in only flash. count the flashes.

eg. two flashes pause three flashes long pause two flashes pause three flashes. this will indicate code 23

hi no its flashing continous to say no error codes like 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 which means no error any ideas

No, we're all as perplexed as you are. A whole series of 1s without a long gap to split the digits sounds very strange.

I didn't think it was possible to receive a no error code result if the warning light was on. And trying different ECUs has eliminated the possibility of an ECU fault.

Does the series of 1s just carry on ad-infinitum or do they stop eventually?
