2001 Rav4 How To Code The Key I Bought On Ebay

OK,

I've bought a key blank and a second hand two button remote from eBay. Had the key cut and it works the doors and ignition. Just need to encode the two button remote poart of the key.

Can someone tell me the right sequence of moves?

Is irt possible theis two button key i bought might not be compatible with mine.

I only have one key andit don't have any identifying marks although it looks like a denso i saw on eBay.

Anyone know of a good keymaker near Greenock who could just create the thing for me at reasonable cost?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi mate, welcome to TOC.

You might have to do a search for this as I'm sure its come up before. If not wait and someone with a better

memory than me might be able to tell you where to find it.

Good luck,

Dave.

Hello Charmois,

I would expect the remote needs to be matched to the vehicle.

I'm no expert on Denso remotes, so the following could be utter rubbish, but usually for these things the code transmitted by the remote has at least 2 parts.

A fixed part so that the vehicle can identify it is the correct key. The vehicle needs to be told this (matched).

A rolling part for security to prevent "code grabbing". Once matched, this rolling part needs to be synchronised to the car.

I expect it is a dealer job to get it matched to the vehicle. synchronisation can usually be done without the dealer. Sorry, can't remember what the sync process is (if any - probably something like pressing and holding one or both buttons together). Somebody on here will probably know, but I'd be very surprised if it worked with just the sync process.

Hi Charmois...

I lost the sync on my keyfob(s) when I changed the fob batteries... what worked for me was to press and hold both buttons for 10 - 12 seconds while stood close to the vehicle door, then press the unlock button. Hope it works for you. B)

Hi, me again. Tried everything with no luck. I read that it may need for me to erase one of the codes on the car using a sequence of moves, but i'm worried that doing this may erase the only working remote. Anyone any experience of this.

Regards

This is what the Autodata CD sugests to program the remote on 2000my onwards I haven't tried it myself.

Driver’s door open key out

Insert ignition key then remove it

Within 40 seconds close and open the driver’s door twice

Insert key into ignition and remove it

Within 40 seconds open close drivers door twice

Close drivers door

Insert key into ignition

Switch ignition on/off to program new key and keep old key codes or twice to clear all and program new key

Key fob should lock/unlock now

Within 20 seconds press and hold lock/unlock buttons for 1.5 seconds within 3 seconds press lock button for 1 second and release
