I was driving along a dual carriage way and all of a sudden my traction control lights came on, my VSC light came on and my engine light. I had no power so i had to pull over and wait for 1 hour and 40 mins for the AA to turn up  . He told it was the coil pack and towed to the local Toyota dealership. They said it was the coil pack and it wasn't generating a strong enough spark. Has anyone heard of this before? Is it a common problem? I have a 05 Facelift T Sport.

Never had that problem and I've got a 2002 Pre-Facelift version. Don't recall anyone else having that problem on this forum either. Hope you manage to get it sorted though.

Its a common problem on the 1.8 VW Passats and the other cars with that engine from the vw group, prob dont give a cr*p bout them thou!!! :D . Think it was something to do with the high temps from the engine, harsh conditions the part had to work under, they couldnt take it. Back in the good old day wouldnt be a prob cause distributor pack mounted away from the engine block,HT leads from that to spark plugs. Dont think the Toyota is know for it thou

My friend had the coil pack replaced on his '04 PRE-facelift T Sport a couple of months back, but that was the first time I'd heard about it! :( Just one of those things I suppose that will happen 1 in a thousand!

Just found out that it damaged the injector as well. They have replaced both the coil and the injector and its still mis-firing and smoking. They now tell me that they have to take the cylinder head off and have a look!!! Some people at work think i need a new engine :o . Any ideas?

I had the traction control and VSC lights come on whilst i was driving a while back, no loss of power though and turning the car off and back on cleared it.

Although that's probably not much help to you!!
