Fly Wheel - Oh No!

Hello to all

I am new to your Forum and currently own a RAV 4 D4D on a 02 plate. The vehicle has clocked up 104, 750 since we brought it five years ago and has never, touch wood, had anything wrong with it other than the standard discs, pads tyres etc. I wanted however to share our recent RAV 4 story with you.

During the summer on a long trip to France we began to notice a sudden loss of power when reaching 3200 rpm in gears 3/4 or 5, this was particulary prevalent when going up steep hills/mountains. Once back in the UK the condition continued so after diagnosis from the dealer it was thought to be a turbo/possible injector/airfilter problem but unfortunately they were unsure as to which. The advice then given was to keep driving it until the situation deteriorated further. This is all well and good until you find yourself in the fast lane on the M25 and suddenly begin to slow to 50mph!

After yet another diagnosis by Motorline Toyota, Tunbridge Wells still nothing could be found other than the turbo code, however the car was returned with a broken alarm that kept going off randomly through the night, marvellous. The car later that week then began to make grinding noises which i presumed to be a clutch/transmission problem. Once more a trip to the garage but this time to those friendly men at Mr Clutch, a new fly and clutch were required and I am still in the process of sourcing them Fly Wheel as it is out of stock in many stores other than the main dealers, and with their prices of £600+VAT then I will go else where. Needapart Ltd were able to source the genuine brand new part yesterday for £493.53 including VAT so if anyone out there has my problem then I can recommend them.

So despite the Fly Wheel and clutch issue I will presumably still have the turbo/injector.air mass metre issue. Anyone got any ideas, all will be greatfully received.

Cheers for now.

Yes welcome to the club.

I now have all the info I need to complete the DMF post I have been promising for so long. That will come as soon as I get chance.

From what you have described about the fuel problem I suspect the fuel pump SCV valves which are replaceable but expensive. We have a resident parts expert who will give you a discounted price if you register with him. If you do a search one of our members has posted a description of how to change them.

If you pm Parts-King he will give you the info you need on price/delivery etc.

Once you have done these two jobs you will have sorted just about the only weak spots with your RAV so be patient and don't sell on your bundle of trouble to some lucky future owner out of frustration!

Cheers
