Tech Pack - Ipod And Bluetooth

I'm looking to order a new 2.2d SR asap, and I'd like the Tech Pack, if it works well. My dealer didn't know much about it, so I'm hoping someone here does :)

Easy bit first - Bluetooth:

Should the bluetooth work with all bluetooth phones (or are there some with problems)? And if you want to make a call, do you have to do it with the phone, and then switch to hands free?

Ipod

Can you control your iPod from the headset, or do you have to take the iPod out of the glovebox to select a song?

Or, as I have read for one of the Toyota iPod packs, does it work as if your iPod is a CD changer, and just let you select from 6 playlists?

Thanks

Hi there,

I am looking into the same thing - I have an 07 Verso T180. Although with the cheapest dealership price I can find being £450 I am looking to fit my own Dension unit at less than half the price!!

Anywho, from what I have been reading you control the IPod through the head unit, and you can access all the playlists, but only playlists (you can't select by Artist or Genre for example) If you need a playlist below 6 you keep scrolling down, but due to the limitations of the head unit, playlists 7 -12 are just numbered 1 -6 again. So if you wanted playlist 8 you would scroll to playlists 7 - 12 and select number 2 (hope that makes sense)

The same is true for tracks in a playlist - the head unit is limited to 99 - if your playlist has more it just starts counting again from 1 when it reaches 100.

I have not read up on the bluetooth, but basically it is a communication standard, and therefore all phones with bluetooth pairing capability should work to some degree.

Hope that helps,

Kris

I took delivery of a new Auris TR at the weekend with the Tech Pack so I'm assuming it's the same across all car models. Hopefulyl the following will be of help to you but bear in mind I've only had the car a few days and so don't know everything about the systems :)

Easy bit first - Bluetooth:

Should the bluetooth work with all bluetooth phones (or are there some with problems)? And if you want to make a call, do you have to do it with the phone, and then switch to hands free?

Once you've paired the phone with the car's bluetooth then every time you jump in your car there after (with your phone and its bluetooth enabled) and start the ignition (or at least switch the electrics on) the bluetooth will automatically pair with the phone. A ladies voice announces that it has paired with the phone thru the car's Speakers. If you want to then make call you simply hold down the button on the steering wheel and you're greeted with the ladies voice once again. The bluetooth system is all voice activated! Depending upon your phone's capabilites and/or how you have the in car bluetooth capabilites set up you can then simply voice dial. For example, I can hold down the steering wheel button. Then say "Call John". The bluetooth lady then announces that she is "Calling John". The car's Speakers then act as the phone's Speakers and the installed car's microphone picks up your voice. If you want to end the call you hold down the sttering wheel button and say "End call."

if you want to make a call to a number not in your phone book then you can say "dial number", and then read aloud the number you wish to call. The bluetooth lady repeats the number to check that is right.

The bluetooth system is very comprehensive, you can sync your phone book with the car, set up conference calls, send DTMF tones to menu systems, etc

With regards to problems my fairly old Motorola worked perfectly first time. My wife's spangly new Sony Ericsson was a bit more fussy and kept failing at the pairing stage but after a bit of trial and error we got it working. There's several sets of bluetooth standards that it adheres tothat I read in the manual, but i'm damned if I can find them now!

All thru the head unit and steering wheel controls. As coffee_junkie said you can actually have upto 99 playlists. The unit does also let you play songs in song name order without the need for playlists, but this isn't very convenient when it starts at tracks beginning with A and you want to 230th song on the list! Song and playlist names are also displayed on the head unit.

Hope this has helped a little.

I ordered the ipod kit for my new verso SR. Works great but one problem. I didn't know that it only works with 4th & 5th generation i-pods. I have a 2nd gen I-pod nano which I would of liked to use in my Verso. I have had to put in my 4th gen I-pod video.

It does tell you this in the maual.

Worth having it though. Saves me carrying all those cd's arround.

With the bluetooth kit, there are one or two phones (Nokia N95 being one) that are not compatable, or at least not compatable unless you do a software download, just something I read when pricing it up for coffee_junkie

Thanks Kingo,

Unfortunately even after upgrading the software on my phone I can't connect to it through the car (a Corolla Verso TR). I will check with the dealer and see if they can suggest anything.

Dave.

Dear Dave

I was going to upgrade to a Nokia N95 8GBytes. I have been advised by my dealer after a service visit that the N95 is not compatible with the inbuilt bluetooth adapter on my Corolla Verso TR. I was supplied with a dealers note from the Toyota Dealer intranet site. It says the following

"bluetooth phones that are known to be non-compatible: Sony Ericsson P800, P900; Eten M500; HTC/SPV M1000; Palm Tero, Nokia N90, Nokia N91, Nokia N70 and Nokia N80.

bluetooth phones where a download of the latest software is needed to ensure compatibility: Sony Ericsson K750i, W8000i. Not compatible with Nokia N95 due to Nokia software issues."

Toyota are blaming Nokia's Bluetooth software on the N95. However experience shows that other Bluetooth phones drop out regularly on the inbuilt kit on the Toyota but do not suffer any problems with my Garmin sat nav system with Bluetooth adaptor. I regularly unpair my phone from the car and just use the sat nav as it gives a more reliable and predictable performance. The sat nav will also read a text out to you which I disable while on the move. Toyota's inbuilt Bluetooth interface just gives the annoying message "You have received a new text" which you cannot disable.

I hope this of help to you.

Graham

Cheers Graham,

I actually have a Nokia N73 but this doesn't seem to be compatible either. I am currently swapping my SIM Card out of the N&3 when I get into the car and putting it in my Nokia 6230i which works no problem - a bit inconvenient though.

Regards,

Dave.

I have done a bit of digging around this problem as I am wanting to get a N95. It appears that the problem with Toyota is that they uses the Motorola bluetooth kit. Nokia and and Motorola have been in competion for many years and used a slighlty different subset of the bluetooth standard. It appears that Nokia have released a newer version of the Bluetooth driver for the N range. Check their site out using the following link. It takes a bit of reading through but do persevere to the second page as we seem to have a have Toyota owner with the inbuilt Bluetooth talking to an N95.

http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/discussions...ding&page=1

It makes interesting reading and it should fix your problems.

Let me know if you try it and how you get on

Regards

Graham

Gents,

I've installed the latest firmware onto my phone (Nokia N73) and I still can't connect to the car. I decided I'd use my old Nokia 6230i with a new SIM card in it and divert calls from the N73 to that but I'm with Virgin and they don't allow you to divert calls from one mobile to another! I'm still waiting to hear from the dealer though and will let you know how I get on.

Regards,

Dave.
