With the T5000 being a CAT1 alarm its sound like the alarm ECU has been spike when you reconnected the Battery, which is a common thing with the T5000.

First thing is to try and recode it :-

Take a remote

Stand by the front passenger door

Point the remote at the dashboard

press and hold the black button down

Hopefully the indicators will flash (this can take anywhere from seconds to minutes)

If that doesn't work it may require the alarm ECU to be replaced. The ECU can be replaced at your local dealer (Part Number 00270-01099-EX)It is an exchange one so they will keep the old ECU,you will also get two new remotes.

Before you replace the ECU try resetting the keys by holding both buttons in at the same time for about 3 seconds. It worked on my Carina. Might just save you some money!.

I disconnected the battery to enable me to get access to the bulb.

The alarm is the standard Toyota one

Toyota 5000 theft deterent system

Thx for your reply

I had a similar problem at xmas when i left the lights on and drained the Battery....dork!

With the Battery connected, lift the bonnet, the alarm should sound, loosen the negative lead on the Battery and the alarm siren will fade down and sound slurred, then tighten it back up and the alarm will sound normal again.

Press the alarm button on your fob and it should disengage the alarm and the immobiliser.

Apparently it is something to do with these cars being "positive earthed"

Worked for me anyway, give it a try.
