1979 Celica Supra

My friend just found a 1979 celica supra in a barn that's been sitting there for the past 7-8 years... I'm going there this weekend to get it running and I'm been searching for options when it comes to swaps or turbocharging. Anyone know what goes into these things?

I've found that it's a 4m-e engine which has 8.5 compression, which is pretty good for a little boost, but I was also wondering if there were other engines that I could get some pistons/rods out of to boost compression to 10.5 if my friend feels like going all motor...

I guess the hp goals are somewhere around 200hp, are there any swaps that fit right in without mount rewelding or other fabrication(minus electrical ofcourse).

People have been known to attempt a 2jz-gte swap, one bloke has documented the transplant of his 5mge out in favour of the 2jz.

The 5mge and your 4mge are pretty much the same engine.

This means 300-350bhp on a stock engine running high boost.

The Celica Supra has a strong chassis, should be just a case of getting the engine mounts right and then your away.

A much cheaper alternative is the 7mgte engine from the mk3. I think this requires very little change to the engine mounts.

This engine will make a good 250bhp on higher boost
