You killed the beautiful rolla :cries:

You took the word right out of my mouth.

When I saw the first picture I thought that's nice, so it was a bit of a shock when I scrolled down.

Thankfully it's different as far as Rollas are concerned, but "that bonnet" has appeared on so many Astras, Novas, Saxos, Corsas etc, etc, it's hardly original.

I'm glad you liked it, but to me it looks gash I'm afraid.

Certainly different

Okay so the style may not be to everyones taste but...

...as the member said "it was 5-6 year ago" so what may have been considered 'the business' then may not be liked now. So what you see there was probably thought amazing back then (remember films like Fast and Furious were out at that time).

So what happened to it, how long did you have it and how did you find it to drive etc. ?

i had the car for 2 years and sold it to a girl from warrington, a nurse.. lol.. lovely car, then about a year ago i bought a toyota corolla ae92 turbo, loved it 2 bits but had 2many cars and no drivers.. e.g. had civic type r, civic show car, civic vti.. so i had to get rid of it. then bought a proper clean corolla ae92, j reg and sold it.. want another clean corolla but hard to get hold off

A Turbo Eh!

A Jap import one presumes?

They also did a Supercharged version out there, out of curiosity does anybody know what the situation was in Japan with these Turbo’d and ‘charger’ versions of AE92 ? e.g. did one replace the other or were they sold in Japan side by side?

Civics – I always have a soft spot for these; you obviously like your ‘Rice Hatches’!

Yep a clean Corolla is getting harder to find as along with other 80’s hot hatches (Escort XR3, Fiesta XR2, Nissan Sunny GTi, Suzuki Swift GTi and even Golf GTi and many others) as rust is killing them off!

And all this from an owner of a 1989 GTi for nearly 15 years

there was no official AE92 turbo, but there were HKS kits for it. The same story with the twin-charger kit, that was HKS too.

Oh right, many thanks (I'm learning something here!)

Now I'm fully conversant with '4A GE' engine but what do they mean then by '4A-GEL' and '4A-GZE'

(I thought it denoted Turbo and supercharger?)

Cheers.

4A-GZE. The Z denotes a supercharger. For sure

Not sure about the 4A-GEL but, as to it being turbocharged, well. Toyota usually denote Turbo variants, with a T. The N/A Celica has a 3SGE, where as the turbo version is the awesome 3SGTE.

The 4A-GEL engine was only available in 1983, and the L denotes that the engine came fitted, not with EFi, but the L4 Carb.

I'd actually, quite like to find a 4AG-EL, it should be a blue/black top. I'd love to do a carb conversion, bet it would sound good. Don't know where you'd find one though.. Anyone got a 1983 Celica 1.6L, they want to sell?
