can you get anything to protect your car doors getting scraped on low pavements. the pavement outside my house is high and the road slopes into the kirb. i try catch my door but sometimes too late. dunno how many times my neighbours have looked out to find out what the commotion is with me screaming "ffs my !Removed! car aarrrrgggg". any form of rubber protectors i could buy that would still allow the door to close?

i know it sounds silly but id rather save the paintwork unless i get constant touch up paint.

Just open your door more carefully and slowly... you'll find you wont scrape anything if you're careful!

I park my car next to a fence and I have to be careful as I don't have much door space to get out but if I swing my door open naturally I'll whack it into a fence... so I just open it slowly, enough to get out comfortably

Apart from keys, why would you have a handful of stuff?

I notice this seems to be a 'lady' thing as both my parner and my daughter do it too!

Put your stuff in the boot and save money on paintwork and follow the correct method of opening door.

Use your arm Further away from door (left arm for driver, right for passenger) To hold the door holder/shutter, nearest arm to pull the latch. This way, any wind can only pull you a small distance from the seat. Sounds fiddly but with a small amount of practice, it is as easy as any other way and again, saves paintwork! Plus, it will cost you NOTHING! :toast:

very much agreed, i go nuts at my mom when she gets out the car like a spaz and doesnt hold the door, or uses it to pull herself up out of the car, its clearly going to move!

if i had £10 for every time shes bashed the door or the wind has swung it open cus she wasnt holding it, id have enough money to get it fixed!

(this gives me an idea, something along the lines of a swear jar. "the incorrect door opening jar") ;)

all items that dont go in your pockets should be put in the boot! why do women need theyre bag behind theyre seat while they are driving?

1) you dont need anything out of it

2) if you did, you cant reach around properly to get it, unless your immensley flexible

3) theives can see it

4) you cant get it out without letting go of the door, resulting in the ever annoying door bashing!

sorry guys and girls, rant over :P

this would be say for example a guy opening the boot everytime hes going out in the car just to place his wallet into it, its handy in the car. we need our bags in the cars for like drive throughs etc. try that one."hold on ill get my purse out the boot". lol

Hi you could write to the local council and ask them to lower the pavement or kerb as to my believe it is not up to standard and even it could be difficult to climb for old folks. you could also gather a petition from the neighbours and present it to the council. You have nothing to loose by trying. Its better than scrathing your car all the time. Good luck

  • 2 weeks later...

Such a frustrating thing to happen!

The day I bought my new Yaris I let go of my door handle and the scraping sound went straight through me as I shouted BO***CKS!!!

Sounds daft but I've started parking the opposite way round to avoid it even if the wind does catch me off guard.. plus if my passenger does it then they can buy me a new door :) xx
