Black Engine Oil New Xtr

Hi,

Just checked my oil after 4000 miles on my 57 plate xtr D4D and it is black!! I'm worried now that something is badly wrong, any ideas please?

I think you will find this quite normal on diesels !!!the oil is this colour almost immediately after a service .

I am sure some of the mechanical experts on the forum will post soon and tell you why

Had mine serviced the other week and the oil was black by the time I got home. (I alway check the oil level after a service) :thumbsup:

Oh well I can stop panicking now!! I havn't even had my first service yet, checked the oil yesterday and just thought it shouldn't be black.

Yes perfectly normal. The oil darkens with carbon blow-by from the pistons but also as a result of temperature. In other words without any carbon it would still darken with age.
