Squealing From D-4d Engine On Cold Start...

D'oh - I thought the new car was going a bit too well...!

Fired her up this morning (2oC outside) and, for the first time, there was a high pitched squealing sound from the engine (not the usual diesel clatter). It seemed to be coming from the left side of the engine (looking from the front), from where the alternator looks to be. The noise went away after 3-4 minutes, once it had warmed up a bit.

I'm assuming it's just a belt that may be a bit worn / loose (alternator / aux belt?) - or could it be a sign of something more serious?

Thought I would ask the resident experts here before getting on the blower to the dealer.

Thanks!

Yep it's the Serpantine Belt (or Aux) that squeeks.... these can be adjusted...normally get them to do mine at each service....

Been lots on here about it...nothing to worry about.

Enjoy your RAV especially as it's a 5 Door Diesel :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Get some photo's into the photo thread, as we all like a good cyber tyre kick on here....

Hi Steve, sounds like your serpentine belt (drives alternator, water pump etc) Mine was squealing and I got it changed at last service.

Lo and behold, squealed a bit this morning, but it was - 6 C up here this morning. Best to get Mr T to change it, seeing as you have just

bought it.

Appreciate the quick responses - thanks guys!

I'll get the dealer to take a look at the belt and re-tension / replace as required.

Will post some photos once I've given her a clean!

If you're at the dealers getting a belt changed (a bit like travelling to Harrods just to get a pair of braces), ask them to weld up the 2 rear doors then ye'll have a 3 DOOR RAV!! :toast: That'll save you from having to carry any passengers, excess animals, lower yer insurance, and less strain on the enjun! And if ye'd boucht a 3 door, it'd save you time washing n polishing cos there's less metal - clever eh???? Less washing means a greener environment!

The RAV 4.3 D nomenclature actually means RAV4; 3 Door. Unfortunately the Toyota factory mis-read the instruction and 5 doors appeared...... :crybaby:

Haggis n Neeps Fur a Traditional Christmas in[3]doors Campaign

I gather you're not a fan of 5-door diesels RAVs then? ;)

Yea you don't want to start baiting the Scottish Bothy....He's only allowed out into the tinternet every now and then the preach his wicked ways about the 3 door RAV's.......But as there is more 5 door RAV's on here we just ignore and talk more about our 5 door Diesel RAV's....that should start him off going all Scottish text an all................

O we also have a permanent chain gang working on the Hadrians Wall...to fill the hole so the bugger cant get through....Just ask for Anchorman or Chatman at passport control......And show your 5 door RAV as proof.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
