Clutch Click When Pressed?

Hello.

I've tried a search but to no avail, if this has been 'done to death', please don't ignore me, put me out of my misery and send me in the right direction please!

I have a new shape 2002 (although it's a UK 51 reg) Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit. When I press the clutch it has a tendency to 'click'. When I first heard this I thought it was something catching in the foot well when I pressed the clutch in, but I had a listen and you can hear it even more loudly from outside, more of a knock than a click.

It seems to come and go, even in the space of a journey, and when it does happen it only seems to happen when you have fully depressed the clutch pedal.

Anyone have any ideas to what could be making this knocking/clicking sound and if so, any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Bernie.

Something catching around the clevis pin (connecting the pedal to master cylinder push rod)? Remove the cover around the pedals, then lie on your back with your head in the footwell and look up at the pedal while moving it with your hand. There's a plastic bush in the hole in the pedal arm that can jump a bit.

Yes I would be looking at the bushes in the pedal pivot point. Also check that the return spring is located properly, they can jump and make a noise too

Thanks, I'll go and try my contortionist's act in the morning, can't see I could hold a torch while bending at the required angles!

I doubt there will be enough light even during the day. It'll be a head torch or torch in the mouth job. Let us know how it goes.

No luck on my first attempt (I thought I'd got it, but it's intermittent and it came back), so I'll have to get under there again. It doesn't affect operation, but a clunk/click type noise isn't great really.

It could well be what Parts-King said. My scenario is that there's a plastic bush in the pedal arm that the clevis pin goes through. It's not held in the punched hole in the arm and every once in a while moves out a mm. Not moving OUT of anything as such - it's all held in place and safe, just a cheap feeling. Let us know if you turn up anything.
