Problem With Injectors On D4d

Hi I have just signed up to this forum.

Yesterday I took my Avensis D4D to have its 60K service (53 reg). I told them about a few problems that I was having - intermitant lack of acceleration in 1st and 5th gear, also problems with starting. I didn't tell them I sometimes saw black smoke when I put my foot down, but I think this is aslo part of the same problem. Also recently I had an engine malfunction sign on the dashboard.

The garage have done a diagnositics on the computer and have suggested this malfunction sign was due to a fuel leak. They say that this could be because 2 of the injectors have gone. They are sending off the others to get checked today but have said that this could cost me £1500 to get fixed.

This seems quite a big fix for a car that doesn't seem that old to me. Has anyone else had a problem with the injectors? Is this a known issue (Like the headlamps I had to change last year - cost of £250).

Thanks,

Squeals

Can't help you with injector problems. However, I had both headlamps on my 53 regd Avensis changed due to the melting bulb holder problem last year too - free of charge. I think (other posts will confirm) Toyota GB extended the headlamp warranty to 5 years about then. If you are lucky (and persistent) you could be due a refund. Good luck with the injectors too.

Yes the warranty has been extended to 5 years / 100,000 miles for the Avensis front lamps - Condensation and buld holders melting.

I would go back and ask them to check this, getting a refund or credit for next services.

Mart.

Thanks for your advice.

I have arranged to have the repair work done now and Toyota have done me a good deal on the parts and the dealership have reduced the labour costs. So only a mere £1550 to pay :(

I did manage to get my money back on the headlamps so that was worth it.
