Hi

Have noticed on here that Rav4 not described by age colour etc but by series of numbers i.e 4.1; 4.2 etc. Can someone give me an insight into these and a brief overview of the chronology( B) ) and how they match up to the dates of registration,manufacture etc.

Hi Taff

Ravers often refer to the own RAV's by 4.1 4.2 4.3, that is to say RAV4 MK1 MK2 MK3, It's a RAV thing, they are mostly barking! (That was aimed out our Northern colleague Bothy)

RAV4.1 MK1 Made from 1994 to 2000 Model code SXA10#

RAV 4.2 MK2 made from 2000 to 2005 Model Code ACA2# CLA2#

RAV 4.3 MK3 Made from 2005 to present Model Code ACA3# CLA3#

That has probably made it as clear as mud, but all will become muddier as you get used to the Ravers, or is that RAVers :D:

So Taff_RAV you can change your details to

RAV 4.1 GX Petrol then we all know what you mean and the model even add the year if you want RAV 4.1 98 GX Petrol...Almost forgot add the 5 door part as that drives bothy mental :wacko: :wacko: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Well its a big 'up you' to those beggars wi 5 door 4.3s. I even accept 1998 RAVvers now cos they are helping the planet conserve precious resources - even if they do mis-guidingly have bought a 5 door. All power tae yer elbow ma man fur buying and conserving a '98 RAV instead o chickening oot an buyin a 4.2 RAV or dare I say it......NO. Anither version.

Wis up at my experts the day - The Garage - in Wishaw who I wholesomely recommend, cos they ken mair aboot Toyota engines and especially the 3SGTE turbo engine, than anyone else in Scotland, which includes Toyota dealers. I wis dropping in some bevvy tae them as thanks fur daein a great job on ma RAV.

We have a bit to go yet to fit a good rollcage, and tune the suspension slightly. The 3SGTE engine - well there's loads more horses to get out of it yet

Fensport

Simply (fur the 5 door oily burners in the suburbs of wherever whit drive trains, oar in ither cases are bored at work and dae nuthin) what we have done is very close to what Fensport have done. Noo, ye might jist see the power potential in this racing engin.... oar in the case o 4.3 diesel 5 door borers they won't.

The acceleration's immense. The 4.1 RAV is I believe the best RAV and is already a collectors item. The 3 door is becoming an icon of some stature and wance ah've got mine running up at 300bhp+, the power to weight ratio is stunning. Then again, I'm not carrying 2 extra doors, air-conditioning and other fancies for the older generation.....

I can out accelerate Audi TTs, Audi 5 & 6 series and pretty much anything else oan the grun. As fur the stunning jet engined 206 that wis pasted tae me oan a thread by wan o oor diesel oily burned 5 door maniacs; the experts at The Garage telt me that ma RAV would out accelerate even that on a standing start!!!

An ah've still 60+bhp tae turn oan!!!

RAV 4.1s are fur professionals. 4.3 diesels wi 5 doors are fur .....ah dinnae ken whit!

You see the moral of the story is that you can buy a rav that goes like a train or you can devote half your life trying to make a petrol go and sound like one. OK OK there are some that go a bit too far and get trains mixed up with phantom jets but that is down to the moonshine/nitrous and leaves you having to develop and test the flammibility of materials incase something goes wrong on re-entry. As the only way of getting said vehicle to move is off a launch pad you also have to be strapped up like Houdini to stop you from falling out but social services like it that way because it saves on straight jackets when they do eventually catch up in their yellow diesel astra vans. Its a case of the hare and the tortoise and these suped up petrols have no stamina ;)
