Previa Clanking

I am having trouble diagnosing a clanking sound in my Previa which has only done 40000 miles. The garage that serviced it said the engine was fine, then when they actually heard it today said the big ends had gone. For a second opinion I took it to a another Toyota garage who said everything sounded fine. In fact it is much worse when cold and when the car is pulling away. Any ideas?

It could be the secondary drive shaft bushes, whilst cold and idling switch on the lights and see if the noise gets worse. Doing this adds load on the alternator and in turn on the shaft.
