Starlet Buying.

Hi, i am thinking of buying a 1994 Starlet GT Turbo, i have driven the car and she does respond very well, reaching her operating temp quickly, she is finished in a nice unmarked green metallic, and has just past her mot, with no advises may i add, she is also taxed for 4 month,s, she came into the country 3 years ago, and has been owned by one person, her interior is in very good condition, with no stains, or rip,s, and the upholstery show,s very little sign,s of wear, she does have aftermarket 17 inch alloy,s fitted, and this does make the car sit a little taller on the road, but they do look nice on her, one thing i did notice, was the tickover, which sit,s at between 1,500 and 1,900 rpm, and after sometime would come down to around 1,400 rpm any idea,s ??? all in all, she does appear to be a completeley standard car, and this include,s the original twin tailpipe exit exaust, i was therfore wondering how much the little car would be worth? obviously i do know that none of you guy,s have seen her, but a ball park figure would be helpfull, cheer,s Rob ps) the car is being sold by a small time dealer, whom appear,s to be a genuine guy.

Sounds very nice.

Very difficult to say what it's worth though - cars of that age are incredibly difficult to price. So question is how much is it worth to you.

What's the mileage like? I couldn't see that in your mail. What's the asking price?

If it's in great condition then I'd say it'll be a better car than lots of cars that are selling for £2,000, £3,000 or more but as with everything it's really only worth what someone will pay for it. Sometimes with specialist cars like this it can be difficult to find a buyer and therefore the seller might struggle to get more than £750 to £1,000 for it even though it's a pocket rocket that will outperform loads of newer warm hatches. Not many people seem to appreciate these cars any more which is a shame. Price then depends on whether the seller is looking for a quick sale, or is happy to wait for the right buyer to come along.

BTW the wheels shouldn't make it stand taller; they should have lower profile tyres that have an overall diameter similar to the original wheel / tyre combination, but you're probably right. If the overall diameter is bigger then you'd better check the speedo is accurate or else you'll pick up tickets very quickly in a car like that.

Let us know if you get it.

Tickover is too high as you mentioned, but it's just an adjustment so as long as it's running smooth and performing like it should then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Could be a good haggling point though !!
