Avensis 2006 + High Performance Tyres

Hi folks,

I am trying to find out which type of tires are best suited for my Avensis 2007. More specifically, can I use a "max performance tires " (e.g., Pirelli Pzero Nero) with Avensis? Or should I choose "comfortable/touring/balanced performance" tires (e.g. Bridgestone er300, Michelin Primacy HP, etc).

Frank

Happy Holidays.

PS: What kind of tires are you currently using?

I am about to change my front tyres for the first time and would like some advice too! I am thinking about 215/50 ZR 17 91W MICHELIN PRIMACY HP. I currently have Eagle NCTs which were fitted from new. I get quite a lot of road noise which I would like to reduce if possible. I have used Primacy before on a Peugeot 406 ( no sniggering!) and was very pleased but noise was not an issue. I would happily go with the Michelins but would appreciate any views. Hope I haven't hijacked your thread, Frank!

My colleague has Toyota Avensis 2005 Diesel with Michelin Primacy HP 205/55R16 (Note: this is not the size you are wearing) and he is VERY VERY VERY happy. The tyres are definitely quiet and gripy. My colleague has a lot of tyres and cars experience so this is an important information concerning Primacy HP. Anyway, If I was to buy a "balanced" tyre (i.e., not a performance tyre) I would buy Bridgestone ER300 since the reviews say that it is a better (handling) tyre with slightly more noise. My local tyre shop also recommended Pirelli P7 215/50R17.

Finally, note that I am also currently wearing Goodyear NCT5 215/50R17 W (Note: It is W not V). I do have problems with the road noise but I am not sure whether this noise is due to NCT5s or due to the size of the tyres (2156/50R17). In addition, my feeling about NCT5s is that they are NOT good, especially in non-straight WET roads... This is why I am changing them after only one year with only 14000 Km. What is your opinion about NCT5s?

I have no problem really with the NCT's other than the fact that they may be the cause of the noise. A friend of mine who used to work for a Toyota dealership is going to speak to a contact in Toyota Technical on Monday about this. My friend hadn't heard of road noise being an issue, and he drives an Avensis. His immediate resposne was to go for a tyre with a softer compound which may not be so durable but should be quieter. I will post again once he has had a response from Toyota.
