Hi there,

I today changed the leads etc on my GT4. In the process I had to remove the black box on top which I believe to be an oil cooler....All the oil came out so I am wondering which grade do I put back in and how much?

Many thanks

'The black box' you refer to is surely the charge cooler; was it really full of oil? It should be coolant in which case you're best off with whatever was in there before - what colour is the fluid?

Yeah, its covers the rocker cover and says twin entry turbo on the top and has various pipes...One goes to the turbo at the front and looks like a mini radiator inside. It was def oil but like clear oil not black used oil. Def not coolant....

That's definitely the charge cooler Severn.

Mine (on an ST185) is filled with red Toyota "for life" coolant and I'd expect yours to be the same, or else for it to have a mix of anti-freeze and water which would probably be blue. I can only think that either someone has added oil to it by mistake, or else it has become contaminated, or perhaps an oil like fluid has been used as a coolant; I've never heard of such a thing but I guess that doesn't make it impossible.

Any ST205 owners on-line to offer advice on this?

[EDIT]I see there are; Booster has confirmed exactly what I was thinking[/EDIT]

I will go with you guys on that, it probably isn't oil thats in there on the floor it had a kinda redish brown tinge to it. I'll try and get some of the coolant you mention and put that in

you'll need a 5 litre bottle if you drained it - costly ( £15 - £17 ) , thats why you drain and catch it when you change the plugs ;)

Oh well, I thought I'd give it a go and if all it costs me is 20 quid then so be it!! lol. I am no mechanic so only learning a bit as I go along!

Do I need to get from toyota dealer?

For Life; yes it's a Toyota product.

But plenty of people fill with regular anti-freeze mix. Personally I'd buy the real stuff, but was told by a GT4 enthusiast who I'm sure knows his stuff, that anti-freeze mix is fine. Don't mix the two though - you have to use one or the other, and flush well if you're changing from one to the other.

Cool, Thanks for all your help....I'll have to drive my Supra for few days until I have sorted it! As I don;t think any Toyota dealers will be open tomorrow!!!
