Does anyone have a set of original 13 inch steel wheels for a 97 Starlet Sportif that they'd be willing to sell? (I'm based in Scotland and would be able to travel a reasonable distance to collect). I've emailed 1st Choice Spares to see if there are vehicle dismantlers that might be able to help.

If I can't track down a set of steel Starlet originals would a set of 13 inch wheels from a Renault Clio or another model with a 4 x 100 PCD do the trick? I'm very non-techy but from looking on the Internet I understand that the Clio also takes the 165/70R13 tyres that are specified for the Sportif in the Owners Manual.

Hope everyone is having a good Christmas. Any help and advice appreciated.

Cheers

13" yaris wheels will fit.. however they came with 155x13 tyres, so you would need to pick up a set of tyrs.. yaris steelies might be easier to get on here.. and possibly free of charge.

Thanks Davy

The wheels that are currently on the car are 155/70/R13's. One of the rims is dented which is allowing air to escape. When I came to change it I found that the spare (which is an alloy) was thicker than the steel wheel and the studs wern't long enough to fully accept the nuts. I bought the car with a years MOT and I reckon the guy who sold it has possibly changed the wheels after it got through the test. My reasoning is that with two wheels that are no good I might be as well to try and get a new set.

A couple of daft laddie questions - I'm right in thinking that a set of 155 x 13 steel wheels would be too narrow for 165 x 13 tyres? Would a set of 155 wheels be ok if I can't get 165's? The reason for asking is that the Owners Manual for the Starlet quotes two tyre sizes 145/80/13's and 165/70/a3's.

145x13 and 165/70x13 have more or less the same rolling radius, a 155x15 has a slightly higher sidewall.. a difference of about 8mm, to give you an idea of this.. you get 8mm of tread on a new tyre.

Your 165 tyres will fit onto the rims on the Yaris without any problems...

A 145x13 tyre will fit rims between 4J - 5.5J

A 165/70x13 tyre will fit rims between 4.5J - 6J

A 155x13 tyre will fit rims between 4.5J - 6J

.. nothing to worry about there.

I would also think that you will have no rubbing issues at all if you were to fit the 155x13 tyres, .. or if you found wheels without tyres changing them over costs £10 per wheel where I work.

Thanks for the advice and prompt reply Davy. I'll look out on AdTrader and here to see if anything suitable comes up for sale. Enjoy the rest of your Christmas.
