Hi, sorry to bother you all, but im currently trying to sell my bros Toyota Avensis as he emigrated to Austrailia a few weeks ago, just wondering what on earth they are worth as a private sale, its a Black 54 plate 5 door hatch, with 43k and fsh, in excellent overall condition, I had it up for sale at 6.5k ono which i thought was a good deal but keep getting daft offers on it, ive checked autotraders price guide and im not far off what that says although its presumably high! I know its not the best time to sell with christmas and that but the damn things taking up space lol,

according to whatcar your price is spot on so you might slide a couple of hundred but anymore than that is taking the mickey on the buyers part.

From my experience of selling and buying cars, the guide books are just that - guides. Christmas is a bad time to sell and where you advertise makes a big difference. For me Autotrader for example, has not been good, except when i was selling low value small cars like a Micra. The bigger family cars struggle to sell due to running costs and the growing trend towards more mpv and 4x4 alternatives for those who want the larger luggage space.

Just my experience, but local papers with a photo have given me the best success, but tend to be quite expensive. I pay about £80 for 2 weeks advertising across several local papers. eBay is an option, but again you are likely to be inundated with silly offers, best of luck !
