Ecu Problem

SW 88

Hi Guys need some advice here,

Had to disconnect and remove the Battery today, (to change a front indicator lamp) re-connected after 20-30mins and there was traction and vcs lights showing. Took it out for a spin and could'nt go over 3000 revs! :o

I have a K&N Typhoon fitted so i figure this is the cause.

Does anyone know any procedures to sort this problem?

Help me please :(

sounds like you are in "safe mode"... ie the ecu thinks something has gone a bit haywire and has limited the engine to protect itself.

try switching the ignition on (do not start the engine).

press the accelerator peddle for about 40 secs (the engine light will start flashing)

start the engine, see if that helps.

It's in 'Limp Home Mode' - almost certainly.

It's been mentioned in the Avensis Forum ( If I recall correctly ) in depth.

Try what Skipper said - from memory it sounds right.

If you can't get it sorted then have a search through the forums - plenty of people have encountered this so the cure should be posted somewhere.

Good luck !

hi. i had the same problem with my t sport after fitting a k & n well a couple of months after. the typhoon puts alot of pressure on the cables goin to the sensor on top of the intake pipe (inlet sensoe) mine had slowly split in cable but you couldnt c it unless you unplugged it a checked each cable itself. if it is a cable uyou can link a new piece if amp cable or similar in place to extend it. then disconnect and reconnect ur Battery and all should be good. hope this helps

I did try this today (twice) but the engine light didn't flash, it may only work on compressors.

You've hit the nail right on the haed there. Took it in to toyota today and its the air flow meter thats causing the problem.

Going to cost me nearly £200 to fix :crybaby:

And they've gota keep it in overnight.

Not a happy bunny

Can get an air flow meter for £40 on eBay,i bought one,it worked fine, and there very easy to fit, toyota wanted 170 euro just for the part. Its not a genuine toyota part but it worked fine and look exactly the same,no probs with it. Its like a 5 min job to fit. What reason did they give for the delay of 5 days?

What is an Airflow meter?

Is it the sensor thing that goes into the tube of the induction kit?

Toyota prob charge about £120 for the air flow meter, prob charge you an hour lab and also another bit for diagnosing it,thats why it £200ish id guess.
