Hi All,

My Avensis is just coming up to the 60K mark and I want to change the fuel filter.

I've just received one in the post which is supposed to be okay for the '99 model but it would appear that mine has a different fitment at the top to that delivered. Looking at the Carina manual, it seems it would be likely to fit that instead. It has a different/shorter bracket at the top of the housing.

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the two? Also, how can I de-pressurise the fuel system easily? The cover for the pump under the rear seat seems to be permanently fixed, unlike the Carina, so I can't disconnect the multiplug.

Your knowledge would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Geoff

Apparently, the filters changes for the 1.6 & 1.8 from '98 on so this filter will be returned to the supplier who stated 97 - 00!

Hi,

Does anyone know how to de-pressurise the fuel system?

I've never bothered doing this in the past. It's never caused a problem when changing the fuel filter.

All you need to do is disconnect the electric feed to the fuel pump. You need to lift the rear seat and move some carpet to reach the connector. Undo the fuel filler cap. Then start the car and let it run until it stalls. Repeat a couple of times. Any pressure in the system will then be lost.
