My Brake Lights Are Out

Hi all,

wonder if anyone could help me. My neighbour kindly told me that my rear brake lights weren't working, only the central top one is working.

When i took off the panel i saw that the brake lights are the same bulb as the tail lights, so how do i get my brake lights working again?

I've checked the manual and it said to check the fuses which i did under the bonnet which all looked fine, so a bit clueless.

Dont want to get pulled over!!!! :(

Hope someone can help,

cheers

Dave

I guess you assumed that it couldn't be the be the bulbs because the tail lights are still working.

However, these bulbs are dual filament; a low wattage (5W) one for the rear lights, and a higher wattage for the brake lights (21W). You'll almost certainly find that the high wattage filament has failed.

Your handbook should give you the correct bulb type for your car, but I'm 99% sure it's the standard 5/21 watt bulb used by the vast majority of cars, so you should be able to buy almost anywhere.

When you put the new bulbs in, note, that they'll only fit in the holder one way round so that the correct filament is used for each circuit.

They are 5/21 watt stop tail bulbs, it's a 380 bulb. As above, take care when fitting them, they are located in a bulb holder and you will have to have small hands with 8 fingers to get the wretched things in and out :D:

Kingo
