Reversing Sensor Problem

Recommended Posts

After making a slight error and reversing into a wall, the rear bumper deflected and popped back into shape, leaving one of the sensors poking out.

I pushed it back in but the system now makes one long beep followed by a single beep. Anyone know if it can be reset, I need to re seat the sensor or if it would need replacing?

:(

I thought that the idea of sensors was to stop you reversing into walls. :( If it was working correctly you should have got a warning prior to hitting the wall

Not sure if you will need to replace the sensor ...................you may need to get the system checked out by an auto electrician.......good luck

I know the reversing sensors will make a continuous bleep if dirt is trapped in the gap of the rings in the sensors but I think your problem is perhaps more serious than this but it would be a good idea to check this first

Funny thing is it did beep as normal, it only gives about 30 cm's of final warning and the wall was at an angle, so looking in the mirror though I had loads of room so wasn't going slowly enought to hit the brakes. :(

Think the sensor will need replacing or the wirings disconnected, I'm going for a crawl under later. Looks like a trip to Mr T at some point for a new sensor, then I'll have to spray it.

As said, you should check there is no debris in the small rubber sensor ring or any other damage to the sensor. If its a Toyota kit you cant just disconnect one sensor are it will not work correctly and can randomly beep.

Best bet would be try and clean any bits out, check its still plugged in and try it. You cant get the sensors seperately (come in sets of 4) but you may be able to source a good 2nd hand single sensor.

Mart.
