Avensis 1999 T Reg Rpm Meter Is Not Working

Hi

This si my first Toyota Avensis and I got lots of problems now I just found my Avensis 1.8 GLS Auto hatchback RPM meter is not working RPM cage is not moving and it is static between 1 and 2.

can any one plz help me what could be the problem I dont wanna take to T and pay them lots of money.

Does ur MPH work ok?

Is the speed sensor connected to the gearbox?

Hi yes MPH meter works fine its just RPM meter is not working

Well, the revmeter should be getting the + / Postive signal from the ecu, and the ground from the the speed sensor,

the speed sensor should have 3 wires

1 Ground

2 Postive

3 Pulsing Postive.

Take off your airbox from your intake mainfold (pipe) and on the gearbox, at the top you should see it plugged in.

1 - take it off, and inspect it, Ie make sure No green mouldy stuff is on the connector or in the sensor plug,

With it unplugged turn the key to the acc postition...

Has the rev meter jumped up to 1 or 2, or is it still at 0..

?

with the speed sensor disconnected ...

Now start the car...

What does the rev meter do? Bounce up and down? or stay static ?
